Engagement ring making hand grey?

Hi there,
I got engaged last December and have a beautiful gold ring complete with 15 lil diamonds (er, I chose it myself).
It’s really beautiful except by the afternoon at work there’s always a grey smudge around it, and it also leaves little grey marks on my pinky and middle finger where it rubs. What is it? It’s not itchy at all or anything, just a grey smudge. Thought it was dirt the first time, but it appears so quickly.
Any ideas?
No, it shouldn’t be fake. And as for having a jeweller check it out, we bought it from one, a very well known one in fact.
I was just wondering where it may have came from as it’s really irritating having to rub it off all the time. It’s becoming like a bad habit.

Could be oils in your skin reacting with filler metals in the gold. 24 kt is pure, 18 kt is 75% gold and so on. I assume you have a low karat gold ring.
